5 Ways Medical Providers Can Stay Spiritually Healthy During the Holidays

Honoring the Heroes of Our Community

We See You, and We Care!

On behalf of Pastor Joe Arata and TurnPoint Church, we want you to know that we are praying for you. We are absolutely aware of the challenges that arise during Christmas and how the true meaning can get lost in the busyness of the season. We truly understand the stress and pressure that comes with your call as a medical professional and we just want you to know that we are here for you. With that being said, here are 5 ways to refresh your spiritual life so you can be the best version of YOU.

1. Identify Your “Spot”.

Even Jesus, the Almighty God robed in flesh, recognized the need to step away to find times of refreshment in momentary solitude. This can be a specific spot in the hospital lounge, the chapel, your home office, or a den recliner. In the New Testament, Luke, who happened to be a physician, writes of Jesus taking time away in Luke 5:16.

“So He Himself often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed.”

- Luke 5:16 (NKJV)

2. Recognize Your Humanity.

Don’t turn us off here… You are absolutely one of the most intelligent and dedicated individuals in the workforce. But guess what? You are human. Grounding yourself in your humanity allows you to give your heaviness (hangups, mistakes, or family and life issues) to the only one who can truly address it. Jesus is a specialist. He specializes in the hardest cases. So, the next time life (or work) presents the impossible - go to Jesus, the Specialist who’s able to turn the impossible into the possible! This leads us to our third point.

3. Handling Heaviness.

How exactly do you hand over the heaviness of life to Jesus?

Can I even hand something to someone that I can’t see?

These are great questions, with a simple answer… Prayer. Challenge yourself to have a chat with Jesus for 5 minutes a day. By the way, if you choose to pray while you are driving to work - please don’t close your eyes… We don’t want YOU to be the patient, okay? Take 5 minutes to chat about how you feel, your fears, your dreams, or maybe just ask for direction and guidance. This leads us to our fourth tip.

4. Practice Gratitude.

During your 5 minute chat, make gratitude your first focus - a statement of thankfulness is a powerful thing. Let’s model some for you;

“Jesus, thank you for the beautiful sunlight I see driving into work today.”

“Thank you for always keeping me safe.”

“Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to help others.”

5. Find Community.

Finally, tip #5 is all about community. We get it, community or “finding your tribe” can be difficult, but it is necessary! Remember Luke the Physician we talked about earlier? Well, he was part of a community of people with various professions, family backgrounds and hangups, just like us. No pressure, but we are here for you.
